ABOUT THE ROLE

Norton Gold Fields is seeking an experienced and motivated Alternate Open Pit Manager to support the leadership and delivery of safe, efficient, and cost-effective open pit mining operations.

This senior operational role is responsible for overseeing daily production activities, short-term planning and scheduling, grade control, contractor management, and workforce performance. The position plays a key role in delivering Life of Mine (LOM) strategy, budget outcomes, and operational excellence.

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Lead safe and efficient open-pit mining operations in line with NGF standards
  • Deliver production targets through effective planning, scheduling, and resource utilisation
  • Manage contractor performance, service quality, and costs
  • Ensure compliance with statutory, safety, and environmental requirements
  • Drive continuous improvement to optimise productivity and reduce operating costs
  • Oversee equipment utilisation, availability, and deployment
  • Lead incident investigations and implement corrective actions
  • Support outsourcing contract tendering and negotiations
  • Promote strong safety leadership and workforce wellbeing
  • Ensure alignment between current operations and future resourcing needs

 

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

  • Unrestricted Western Australian Quarry Managers Certificate (Essential)
  • Senior Site Executive (SSE) Qualification (Desirable)
  • Current C Class Driver’s Licence
  • Relevant tertiary qualifications
  • Senior First Aid (Desirable)

 

SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE  

  • Minimum 10 years’ experience in open-pit gold mining operations
  • Demonstrated leadership of large operational teams
  • Strong understanding of mining equipment, processes, and optimisation
  • High level of technical knowledge in geology, engineering, and mine design
  • Experience in cost control, budgeting, and contractor management
  • Strong understanding of WA mining legislation and WHS requirements
  • Competency in mining and HSE software systems
  • Strong reporting, communication, and stakeholder management skills
