ABOUT THE ROLE
The Project Cost Controller is responsible for managing and monitoring all project cost-related activities to ensure financial performance and compliance with budget, schedule, and corporate policies. This role provides timely and accurate cost reporting, forecasting, and variance analysis to support effective decision-making and successful project contract delivery.
WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING
- Cost Planning & Budgeting – Prepare project budgets, estimates, cash flows, and align costs with schedules and methodologies.
- Cost Control Procedures – Maintain WBS, cost systems, and support value engineering to reduce costs.
- Cost Monitoring & Reporting – Track expenditures, analyse variances, and provide regular cost reports highlighting risks and drivers.
- Tender & Procurement Support – Assist in pricing, RFQs/AFEs, evaluate tender submissions, and recommend suppliers.
- Forecasting & Reviews – Deliver accurate cost forecasts, update financial outlooks, and support progress reviews and audits.
- Collaboration – Partner with managers, engineers, procurement, and finance to ensure accurate cost allocation and decision-making.
- Contract Administration – Review payments, invoices, purchase orders, and supplier claims to ensure compliance and accuracy.
- Compliance & Close-out – Follow financial policies, reconcile project costs, finalise reports, and document lessons learned.
- Safety & Legal Compliance – Promote WHS Act 2020 requirements, enforce safety culture, and meet environmental/legal standards.
- Risk & Issue Management – Identify risks, assess scope/financial impacts, and support mitigation strategies throughout the project.
WHAT YOU WILL NEED
- Bachelor’s degree in Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, Engineering, or equivalent
- Current “C” Class Manual Driver’s License
- Strong understanding of Australian Standards and cost estimation methodologies
- Advanced Excel and estimation software skills (e.g., CostX, Expert Estimation)
- Experience with mining/process infrastructure or NPI projects preferred
