ABOUT THE ROLE

As an Open Pit Senior Mining Engineer at Norton Gold Fields, you are responsible for delivering project studies from concept to feasibility and supporting Life of Mine (LOM) planning for open pit operations. As part of the Projects and Technical Services team, you’ll collaborate with key stakeholders to ensure practical, aligned planning outcomes. Strong mine planning, engineering, and software skills are essential, along with a solid understanding of open pit operations and safety regulations. Effective communication and relationship-building are critical to driving successful project development.

  • Deliver high-quality project studies and LOM (3–10 year) schedules, assessing pit sequencing and mining method options for optimal outcomes.
  • Identify mine optimisation and business improvement opportunities across current and future operations.
  • Develop practical long-term mine designs, including required infrastructure and development plans.
  • Maintain and report Open Pit Ore Reserves annually and ensure economic evaluations are supported by updated cost models.
  • Collaborate with key departments (Geology, Environment, Operations) to ensure practical and aligned planning outcomes.
  • Champion safety and NGF Values through daily actions, team leadership, and compliance with site standards.

 

ABOUT YOU

  • At least 5 years of relevant experience in Open Pit Mining and 2 years of leadership experience (Essential).
  • Tertiary qualifications in Mining Engineering or equivalent (Essential).
  • Current, unrestricted Western Australian Class “C” Driver’s Licence (Essential).
  • Proficient in mining management applications such as Deswik, MPX, Surpac, and MS Excel (Essential).
  • Previous experience in an Open-Pit/Cut mining environment (Desirable).
  • Comfortable communicating at all levels from operators through to management and chairing meetings.
  • Good understanding of mine planning, open pit mining operations, and equipment maintenance.
