ABOUT THE ROLE

Norton Gold Fields is seeking a Senior UG Mine Planning Engineer to join our Technical Services team.

This role will lead underground mine planning and project study work, including life-of-mine planning, mine design, scheduling, cost modelling, technical evaluations and project studies.

You will provide practical planning support to help underground operations achieve safe production, budget and long-term business objectives, while working closely with geology, geotechnical, survey, ventilation, operations and finance teams.

 

WHAT YOU’LL BE DOING

  • Undertake and support underground project studies, including mine design, scheduling, cost estimation and economic evaluation.
  • Develop and maintain practical life-of-mine plans that support operational and business objectives.
  • Prepare underground development, production and infrastructure designs.
  • Complete stope optimisation, cut-off grade analysis and mining scenario assessments.
  • Prepare annual budgets, forecasts and long-term production schedules.
  • Develop capital and operating cost inputs for project evaluations and business cases.
  • Identify key risks, constraints and opportunities within mine plans and project studies.
  • Work closely with geology, geotechnical, survey, ventilation, operations and finance teams.
  • Ensure planning assumptions, designs and schedules are practical, clearly documented and technically sound.
  • Deliver planning and study work within agreed timeframes.
  • Provide technical support and guidance to site engineers and less-experienced team members where required.
  • Assist with technical reviews, due diligence and other underground planning work as required.
  • Promote a strong safety culture through visible leadership and active participation in site initiatives.

WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR

  • Bachelor or Master of Mining Engineering.
  • Minimum 3–5 years’ underground mining experience, including mine planning experience.
  • Candidates with less experience may be considered where they demonstrate strong technical capability in underground planning and project studies.
  • Experience in long-term mine planning, mine design, scheduling and project evaluation.
  • Understanding of underground mining methods, geology, geotechnical requirements and production practices.
  • Knowledge of risk assessment and relevant Western Australian mining safety legislation.
  • Competent user of Deswik software.
  • Competent in Microsoft Excel, Word and PowerPoint.
  • Experience in cost modelling or economic evaluation is desirable.
  • Current unencumbered WA C or HR class driver’s licence.
  • First Aid Certificate desirable.
  • WA First Class Mine Manager’s Certificate of Competency desirable.
